On Tuesday 18 March 2014 local residents and B&WR passengers may have spotted this alien spacecraft buzzing around Bodmin General station. There was no need to be alarmed. It was an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) belonging to Superdrone Aerial Imaging Services of Newquay. This state of the art, 21st century piece of advanced technology is a eight rotor flying drone with an underslung camera, powered by lithium batteries. It looked most incongruous surrounded by the clutter of a steam railway dating back to 1887, and a steam locomotive (GWR 2-8-0T no. 4247) built in 1916. It was being trialled to test the possibilities of an aerial survey of the Railway's 6.5 miles of track. What would IK Brunel have thought?
