Discover the fun of volunteering and learn how we keep this living museum of Railway heritage alive.
We welcome volunteers from any age group, background and skill set who feel they would like to be involved in something that gives them personal satisfaction of a job well done, but also by learning about something that may be less familiar to them. If people skills are “your thing” you’ll be assured of meeting people and making new friends. Some may want to brush up their technical and mechanical skills, whilst there is ample opportunity for training and working on the rolling stock. Wherever you choose to try your hand, safety is our key watchword.
We’re holding two special Volunteer Open Days this year – Join us on Sunday the 7th of April and Saturday the 1st of June, for morning and afternoon slots which will include a behind the scenes tour, tea and cake and a chance chat to existing volunteers and find out what it’s all about!
Volunteering days – what can you expect?
We would love to meet our potential volunteers, show you around the Railway and demonstrate how you can become involved – this could include serving in the shop or buffet, working on the platform, getting “stuck in” in the workshop, or simply being “green fingered”, but there is so much more. Ask questions while you’re here – we hope that you will like what you see and hear. We will endeavour to fit your preferences to available tasks. Volunteers will never be left unsupervised until we are certain that you are ready. You give as much or as little time as you feel able. We value every hour that you give, and we are quietly confident that you will enjoy every minute spent with us.
Our special volunteering days are a great chance to meet the team and find out what it’s like without the commitment – but you can sign up to volunteer at any time. If you plan to come along and find out about volunteering in person, please contact us first so that we can make sure we have the time to dedicate to welcoming you and answering any questions you may have.
