We’ve put together some FAQs which should help answer current questions.

Are you running Christmas trains?

Sadly in light of the current situation we won’t be able to offer a Christmas experience at the railway, and the railway will remain closed until Easter 2021. We have contacted all those who had a bookings for Santa by Steam or Festive Dining directly. If you have not heard from us, please email [email protected]. This email address is being monitored and someone will get back to you.

Although the Second lockdown is due to end on December 2nd 2020 and the new updated Tier system commencing under which we could open, it just wouldn’t be feasible to hold our normal Santa By Steam event. Any preparation would have to take place during the lockdown which would be unpractical given the scale of preparatory work required. The safety of our volunteers is paramount and we can’t put them at unnecessary risk and the small staff team that would have to organise and run the event have only just been brought back off furlough, giving them very little time to prepare the event. Rest assured however this safeguards the Railways future and here’s to Santa By Steam 2021!

I have a trip or experience booked, what is going to happen?

We will not be running pre-booked trains as planned. We have contacted all those who had a bookings directly. If you have not heard from us, please email [email protected]. This email address is being monitored and someone will get back to you.

I have a voucher that expires this year…

Your voucher is automatically valid for an extended period, until the end of 2021. You do not need to do anything further. We hope that whilst it is disappointing you can’t attend as planned, this will offer something to look forward to when the experience can be enjoyed. We look forward to welcoming you at a later date, and thank you for your understanding.

I have a group booking with you, what should I do?

I’m interested in making a booking or group booking for 2021.

We are currently working gout our running schedule for 2021 so we’re unable to take bookings or confirm dates at this point. Please get in touch in early 2021, or check the website.

How will I know when you reopen?

We plan to run train sagain from Easter 2021. We are also hoping to host Open Day events at Bodmin General Station when we can. The best thing to do would be sign up to our mailing list here. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – now some staff are back to work we’ll be able to keep these channels better updated. We’ll share updates about our plans for reopening as we have them.

I’m trying to contact the office but I’ve struggled to get through.

Sorry that we haven’t been able to be as responsive as usual. The railway is currently closed, and has been since March. It will not reopen running trains until Easter 2021. Our entire small team have been furloughed, and we have been through a restructuring process.

A new in-house team for the business and administration side of things here will not be recruited till early 2021. If your enquiry is genuinely urgent, please use the [email protected] email address, which will be being monitored on a regular basis by volunteers, with emails being redirected.

I’m a volunteer and I’m really keen to come back and help!

We have put in place measures to keep volunteers safe when they return to the railway, and we’ll need you to pay attention to the new procedures and way of working that have been put in place. We have been able to welcome more people back to volunteering in various different areas, so please get in touch.

I haven’t volunteered before but would like to get involved now.

We would love to hear from you. We are going to be looking at various new ways people can volunteer to help the railway, particularly whilst many of our typical volunteer roles running trains are not required. You can email [email protected] to let us know you’re interested.
