Shark Ballast Plough Van in Use

Shark Ballast Plough Van in Use

Published: 17th February 2016

Today we have used our 'Shark' ballast plough van for the first time in many years to spread out some new ballast over some recent track re-laying work near the Bodmin - Lanivet Road.  Despite having not been used for some time, the plough van worked perfectly at spreading out the ballast and was a lot easier than moving it all with a fork and a wheelbarrow!

Most wagons built for British Railways for their own track maintenance works were named after sea creatures.  There are also Mermaids, Swordfishes, Salmons, Rudds and Dogfishes amongst others!
