DRIVING COURSE DELIGHT

DRIVING COURSE DELIGHT

Published: 7th May 2013

Anne Farrer, an amazing 77 year old, completed a B&WR driver experience course on 19 April. She grew up on a farm at Baldhu near Truro, and some of her family were employees of the Great Western Railway. She now lives in Falmouth, spent many years in nursing, has had her own family, which now includes six grandchildren. In spite of her age and lack of inches, she was amazingly competent in the three routines of firing, driving and guarding, a very spirited lady and an example to us all!

All of which proves that age and gender are no barriers to volunteering on a steam railway.

The photo shows Graham Parkinson (the instructor Guard), Anne and Jimmy James (the instructor Fireman). Also in the cab of 6435 are the other participants and instructor Driver Trevor Knight.
