Event Date: 22nd September 2017- 24th September 2017

China Clay Gala and Real Ale Festival 22/23/24 September

Visit over this special weekend to celebrate our Cornish railway history.  We'll be running an intensive timetable with lots of locomotives including our historic Beattie Well Tank from the National Railway Museum number 30587* which spent much of its working life at Wadebridge and on the Wenford Bridge line.

Unfortunately the T9 30120, which was expected to appear at the Gala, will no longer be able to appear due to a mechanical issue with the locomotive's cylinder block.

We're also expecting to have 4247*, 4612* and a selection of diesel engines in use.

Judy*, the Port of Par shunter famed for her adaptation in the 'Thomas' stories, will play the part of a full-size train set where children will be able to direct proceedings.

There'll be intensive departures between 10am and 5pm each day, with trains heading in all directions from our hub at Bodmin General.

We’re pleased to welcome back our friends from Wheal Martyn, who’ll be bringing their vehicle and providing more information on Cornwall’s clay mining history.

This year, we’ll be following the journey of our china clay through from start to finish with the chance to get stuck in to some potting with local artist Laura Lane. Hands on sessions for children and adults, and skilled demonstrations, will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

And this family-friendly outing is even open to your four-legged family members. Dogs are welcome, so Rover can come too with a £1 ticket (just keep those paws on the floors please!).

*All locomotives appearing subject to availability.

Real Ale Festival

Steamers Real Ale Bar will be open, with a platform ticket for entry just £3.20 including a free pint! Enjoy a selection of real ales from across Cornwall and further afield, plus ciders, apple juices and real lemonade. In addition to the Bodmin General Station café during the day, there’ll be delicious fare served until late by the brilliant Bangers on the Go to accompany your pint. With plenty to see from the station platform throughout the day, into the afternoon and evening there’ll also be live music to keep you entertained. The bar will be open 10am-11pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am to 6pm on Sunday.
