The Trench

The Trench

Event Date: 18th June 2018- 15th July 2018

Times: 18th June to 15th July

Soldiers catching the train from Bodmin General

Brothers, fathers, sons, a motorcycling clergyman, a talented composer, a heroic bandsman... The Trench at Bodmin tells the true and personal stories of local Cornishmen who fought in the First World War. Follow in their footsteps, enlist at The Keep and take on a soldier’s identity. Board a steam train and head off to experience life in the trenches and the chaos of battle.

“If you thought theatre was just about finding a comfortable seat in a warm room for a couple of hours, while watching actors on a stage portraying a story - think again.” BBC on Collective Arts

Soldiers and audience in the trench at Levant.

The Trench experience itself is an 'immersive' event/performance by Collective Arts - the audience will not be called upon to engage with the enemy (at least until all basic training is complete), however they will be taking an active role in the production and should be prepared to spend up to one hour outside.

The performances take place between the 18th June and the 15th July, 2018. Enlist from 18:00, and the event should be finished by approx. 21:00. The experience includes a return journey on the Bodmin & Wenford steam railway, up to an hour in a purpose-built replica WW1 trench, entry to Cornwall’s Regimental Museum and the special Trench Exhibition, and optional extras include Ration Packs and entry to one of four short plays.

Tickets are available now from www.thetrenchbodmin.co.uk or the box office on 01726 879500.

EYES FRONT!

All men, women and young adults are welcome to Enlist in The Trench at Bodmin, however there are a few preliminaries and precautions for recruits to follow. Please fully read the additional information available at www.thetrenchbodmin.co.uk or contact the box office on 01726 879500 for further information.

Short Plays Lanhydrock House, a local cricket team, DH Lawrence and family secrets… Discover Bodmin’s alternative First World War stories in four additional short plays specially commissioned for The Trench at Bodmin.

‘Beetroot Pie’, ‘Falling’, ‘Hip, Hip, Hip - Hurrah for Harleigh’ and ‘The Spy Who Loved DH Lawrence’ will be performed by both professional and community actors, in the loft space at Bodmin Keep. A different short play will be performed each time, and will finish prior to enlistment to the main Trench Experience. Start time 17:00, tickets are £5.00. NB There's limited seating so advance booking with your main Trench experience tickets is advised.

Ration Packs Inspired by the First World War era, these ration packs are boxed in a handy carry box to take on the steam train to The Trench. Featuring local produce, this delicious Cornish picnic is the perfect treat for the troops, and adds something extra special to your Trench experience. Ration packs must be ordered in advance, and then collected from Bodmin & Wenford Railway after Enlistment. Find more detailed information at www.thetrenchbodmin.co.uk.

Special Exhibition As part of this incredible project, Cornwall’s Regimental Museum have a special exhibition telling the stories of the 80 local men who risked everything during the ‘Great War’ and were researched for The Trench Bodmin. The exhibition is part of the Trench experience and will be open to ticket holders during June and July, and to the general public between August and the end of the year.
