The cost of running a steam railway in the 21st century, even when 90% of the staff are volunteers, continues to spiral. Passenger revenues may cover day to day operations, but investment for the future increasingly relies on donations and legacies. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway is no different in this respect than any other heritage railway. £500, for example, could buy 40 concrete sleepers to replace worn out wooden sleepers. A major ten year overhaul of a steam locomotive can cost £300,000.
We realise that making a donation, or leaving a legacy in your will is a sensitive matter. But any gift, no matter how small, is always fully appreciated. We, therefore, appeal to those who wish to see their generosity last beyond their own lifetimes. You would be secure in the knowledge that your gift would benefit the next generation of rail enthusiasts, and would help to secure the future of live steam in the heart of Cornwall.
Should you wish to make a donation, or leave a legacy in your will, then please contact the office at Bodmin General. Your enquiry will, of course, be treated respectfully and confidentially. Donations qualify for the Gift Aid Scheme which increases the value of donations to charities, such as the Bodmin & Wenford Railway Trust, by allowing us to reclaim basic rate tax on your gift. We receive an additional 25p for every pound you give, thus making your donation go further. See www.hmrc.gov.uk for further details.
